SHOPS AND ESTABLISHMENTS LICENSE REGISTRATION

Shops and Establishments Act is enacted by several state governments to regulate the conditions of workers/employees. Any shop, office, establishments, theatre, hotel restaurant etc., need to register for Shops and Establishments license. Shops and Establishments act is to regulate the work conditions, rights of employees, working hours, holiday list, minimum age for employment and list of obligation of the employer.

The license is issued by State department- Department of Labour. Shops and Establishments license is mandatory within 30 days of commencement of business. This act does not provide a parameter on the minimum or maximum number of the employees for the registration, an establishment can have any number of employees and even no employee.
